Canidae Dog Food

We are often asked about the dog food we feed our Rhodesian Ridgebacks. There are some very good dog foods on the market. It is important for the health of your puppy to feed it a well balanced food without ingrediants that are harmful to its long term health, so select wisely. Many of the cheaper dog foods will fill your puppies tummy, but starve its muscles and bones. If you are unsure of the dog food you have selected, ask your vet. Most vets will keep a list of dog foods that have caused problems with their patients.

It is also important to not over feed. Allowing your puppy to grow two quickly can be harmfull to its bones and joints. Rhodesian Ridgebacks take a full two years to reach their full growth. They generally grow to their full height by 12 months, but their bones will continue to mature until around 24 months.

If you feel your puppy is fat or over weight talk to your vet. Its very important for the long term health of your puppy to not be overweight during the first year of growth.
